Orthomolecular Medicine is the preservation of good health and the treatment of disease by varying the concentrations in the human body of substances that are normally present in the body. The approaches were pioneered through the research of Linus Pauling (Pauling L. How to live longer and feel better. Freeman, New York, 1986). The organization was founded by Abram Hoffer PhD MD FRCP(C), Steven Carter and Jack Kay. ISOM held its inaugural meeting in 1994 in Vancouver, Canada, bringing together many of the orthomolecular organizations that were active around the world.
